About the Artist

Artist Phil Brooks

I’m a local artist living in Charleston, South Carolina. I was born in Galveston, Texas. I'm an avid fisherman. I cannot remember a time when I was not in a boat enjoying fishing. I’ve had the unique opportunity to live near and fish the Gulf of Mexico, Pacific and Atlantic oceans. I developed a love for fishing as a young boy. I love to take families with small kids to fish for the very first time. To see the kids jump up and down with a smile on their face to catch that first fish makes me happy and reminds me of when my passion for the water began.

I’m a self-taught artist and began my painting career later in life. I feel inspired to paint and bring to life, in my paintings, the beauty of the fish I have experienced on the water. I began with pencil drawings and quickly moved into larger acrylics on wood and canvas. I also enjoy watercolor and charcoals.  I love to explore new ideas and push my limits.

I have been fortunate to be part of some fulfilling conservation efforts, such as the HUBBS project, where we raised White Sea bass from hatchings to release back into the Santa Monica bay with the Marina Del Rey Anglers. I am currently part of the CCA of South Carolina. The water has always brought me and my family so much joy and it feels good to give back in any way I can. The fish I paint and share with you will hopefully make you feel some of that passion.

I am currently working on a redfish series, entitled “Southern Tails". The Redfish on auction today is # 2 of the series. The painting of this redfish is called Pretty in Pink. I have many projects in the works at one time and love to connect with people through my art. This painting is one of my favorites. The beautiful pink, blues, greys and gold make Pretty in Pink stand out.
